My 30-Day Journey

Follow the experience, observations, challenges, and lessons from Day 1 through Day 30.

The Chronicles

The Journey Begins

On August 6, I began my 30-day water-only fasting journey. My last meal was on August 5 at 8:40 PM, and from that point forward, the goal was to consume only water.

I decided to document the journey from the very beginning, not just the physical changes, but everything that happens along the way. I plan to continue working, traveling, and maintaining my normal activities while documenting the experience.

One of my goals is to track the physical transformation, including changes in my weight, waist, and overall appearance. But for me, this journey goes beyond aesthetics. I’m also interested in observing the changes I experience throughout the fast and learning more about the processes associated with fasting.

I chose to share the journey from Day 1 as a way to stay accountable. By documenting the experience publicly, I’m creating something that keeps me committed to the 30-day goal.

Navigating the Dip

On Day 2 of the 30-day water-only fast, I continued documenting the physical and personal changes I was noticing. I observed that my face was beginning to look slightly less round, while I continued paying attention to other changes happening throughout the day.

Although the goal was to consume only water, I had an unsweetened jasmine green tea during a business meeting. Since this was my first time having green tea during a fast, I noticed some changes in digestion that I typically experience much later in a fast. In previous fasts, which have ranged from one to nine days, these changes usually occurred around Day 5.

The First Milestone

By Day 3, the focus shifted toward understanding what happens inside the body during prolonged fasting.

As stored energy is used, the body begins shifting away from its usual reliance on food for energy and increasingly draws from stored fat. The journey is also being used to observe and learn more about ketosis, autophagy, and other physiological processes associated with fasting.

The goal is to track how these processes and physical changes develop throughout the 30 days.

A Fart Is Not Always a Fart

By Day 4, digestive changes had become more noticeable. During a prolonged fast, bowel movements can decrease because there is no regular food intake, and changes in bowel activity may occur over several days.

This stage of the journey highlights one of the less visible changes that can occur as the digestive system adjusts to the absence of food.

Keto Breath Is Real

By Day 5, a noticeable change was “keto breath,” an unpleasant breath odor associated with the production of ketones during fasting.

As the body continues shifting toward using stored fat for energy, ketone production increases. One of these ketones, acetone, can be released through the breath, which can cause a distinct smell.

The experience highlighted another less-visible change that can occur during prolonged fasting, especially as the body remains in a low-insulin, fat-burning state.

The Body Starts Using Stored Energy

By Day 6, one of the main observations was the body's continued shift away from processing incoming food and toward using stored energy.

With no food coming in, the body is moving through its available energy stores and increasingly relying on stored fat. This process is accompanied by ketone production, which had already become noticeable through changes such as keto breath.

Another observation from this stage of the fast was the importance of being aware of muscle preservation. While the body can use stored fat for energy, muscle can also be affected during prolonged fasting, making physical activity and awareness of changes in the body important considerations.

Day 6 was essentially about the transition happening internally: less incoming fuel, greater reliance on stored energy, and continued adaptation to the fasting state.

Watching My Body Change

By Day 7, the most noticeable change discussed was the continued change in body size and appearance as weight loss progressed.

A particular focus was how the skin responds as the body becomes smaller. The observation was that, alongside the reduction in weight, areas of skin that had previously been stretched may gradually change in appearance and adapt to the body's changing shape.

This stage of the journey also brought greater awareness of the physical transformation happening beyond the number on the scale. Changes in body size can affect how clothing fits and how the body looks and feels.

The focus of Day 7 was therefore on body composition, changing skin appearance, and adapting to a rapidly changing physique during the fast

Small Steps, Bigger Change

This journey began with an unexpected reset.

After completing 7 days of water-only fasting, I broke the fast with a meal and immediately regretted the decision. At that point, I had gone from 276 lbs to 260 lbs, a reported loss of 16 lbs, and felt good throughout those seven days.

Rather than continuing the journey without acknowledging what happened, I chose to start over and document the reset honestly.

The goal remained unchanged: 30 days of water-only fasting

The Restart

I Fell Down, But I Got Back Up

After completing 7 days of water-only fasting, the journey took an unexpected turn. The fast was broken, and the decision was made to start again.

Rather than letting the setback end the journey, this became an opportunity to recommit to the original 30-day goal. Alongside the fast, social media was also put on pause, creating space to focus fully on the journey.

The goal remains the same: 30 days of water-only fasting. The journey continues.

The Journey Continues

After completing the first 7 days of the original fast, I broke the fast and eventually returned to my previous eating habits. Rather than abandoning the 30-day goal, I decided to begin again.

I started this new attempt at 267 lbs, after reaching 260 lbs during the first 7 days.

This time, the focus is on consistency and following through. The immediate goal is to get past Day 7, where the first attempt ended, and continue from there toward the full 30-day goal.

The journey is about more than appearance. While changes in weight and body composition are part of what I am documenting, health remains the primary motivation.

I’m also continuing to work out during the journey while paying attention to how my body responds throughout the fast.

Day 1 of the new attempt. The journey continues.

Back on Track

After restarting the journey, Day 2 was documented through progress photos rather than a video update.

The focus remained on staying consistent and continuing the fast after the setback of the first attempt.

With the goal still being 30 days, this stage is about getting through the early days again, moving past the previous stopping point, and continuing toward the bigger goal.

Day 2 of the new attempt. One day closer.

Get It Done

Day 2 was documented through photos, but there was no video update. By Day 3, I was back in front of the camera and continuing to document the journey.

At this point, I’m at 260 lbs and feeling good.

After completing 7 days during my first attempt, I broke the fast and spent the next few weeks eating before getting back on track.

This new attempt is about getting past the point where I previously stopped and continuing toward the full 30-day goal.

The focus now is consistency. Rather than trying to make every update clever or overly informative, the goal is simple: keep going and get it done.

The physical transformation matters, but health remains the biggest motivation behind the journey.

Day 3 of the new attempt. Get it done.

Whoop-de-doo

After breaking the fast during the first attempt and spending several weeks eating before returning to the journey, the focus is now on completing what was originally started.

At Day 4 of this new attempt, I’m at 259 lbs. Looking at the entire period since the original start, that puts me approximately 20 lbs down in less than 40 days.

But the number on the scale isn't the only measure of progress.

The bigger focus is health, discipline, and follow-through. After not completing the original attempt, this new journey is also about reinforcing the commitment to finish what was started and follow through on a goal that was set.

The immediate goal remains the same: get beyond Day 7, where the first attempt ended, and continue toward the full 30 days.

The Reason I Didn't Throw Out My Old Clothes

By Day 5, one of the noticeable changes was being able to fit into clothes that previously no longer fit.

Instead of throwing away his older clothes, he kept them with the hope that he would eventually get back into them.

Now, as his body size changes, some of those clothes are starting to fit again.

The journey continues to focus on weight, body changes, health, and staying committed to the 30-day goal.

Art Imitates Life

After stopping the fast again, I initially considered presenting the journey as if everything had happened consecutively. But I decided to document the reality instead, the stops, restarts, progress, and setbacks.

The original goal is still 30 consecutive days of water-only fasting, but this journey has also become a daily record of what it actually takes to work toward that goal.

Since starting, I’ve lost more than 20 pounds in less than two months, become more consistent with exercise, and started paying closer attention to what I put into my body.

The focus now is simple: keep documenting the real journey, including the ups and downs.

Support, Resistance & the Journey

The journey has started to reveal a pattern similar to support and resistance in trading.

For me, certain numbers on the scale have become psychological barriers. Around 260 lbs is one of those points. When I reach it, instead of continuing toward my goal, I can find reasons to slow down or stop.

Looking back, I recognize that those decisions aren't always logical. Sometimes the emotional decision comes first, and the reasoning comes afterward.

That's one of the things this journey is now documenting, not just the physical changes, but the psychological challenges that come with trying to change long-standing habits.

WaterOnlyFast.com has also evolved into more than a record of a single 30-day fast. It has become an ongoing journal of the attempts, setbacks, restarts, progress, and lessons along the way.

The goal remains the same: keep going, keep learning, and ultimately complete the 30-day water-only fast.

I will persist until I succeed.
